Winter in Yellowstone

If you haven’t been to Yellowstone National Park in the winter, we think it is absolutely the best time to visit the park. This time of year features very few visitors.  Combine that with the winter weather, wildlife, and beautiful landscapes. Yellowstone in the winter is unlike anything else!

Wildlife we hope to see:

  • Bison
  • Elk
  • Deer
  • Coyote
  • Fox
  • Bobcat
  • Wolves
  • Ermine
  • Otters
  • Bald Eagles
  • Golden Eagles
  • Owls and more!

While in West Yellowstone we will have hotel accommodations. that will include breakfast. Dinners will be provided at one of the restaurants in town.

During the North Yellowstone portion we will have a house rented where we will provide breakfast and dinner at the house.

Transportation during the tour will be in a large passenger van. Since the van will be a 12+ seater vehicle and there will only be 4 guests there will be ample room for everyone and there gear. The snow coach seats up to 13 as well.

Yellowstone has extremely harsh winters. Temps can frequently drop to zero to -40 but can be as warm as 30F. We will provide our guests with clothing recommendations. You can expect to need, thermal base layers, heated socks, cold weather boots, hand warmers, cold weather hat, gloves, and dress in layers.  You will be in a heated vehicle most of the time but we don’t want it to be very warm in there so we can prevent fogging lenses.

 What to Expect

the Snow Coach portion will be based out of West Yellowstone where we will have a private coach. We will explore the Parks interior looking for wildlife but we will also see the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Old Faithful and various thermals and waterfalls. We will also be exploring the northern regions of the park, which goes from Gardiner to Cook City, through Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction, and Lamar Valley.

Arrive via BZN airport where we will all gather and head to West Yellowstone. Here we will be hotel based with breakfast included. Dinners will be at one of the several restaurants in town.

The rest of the tour will be based out of a very nice vacation rental home in Gardiner, MT that we have used for several years. We will prepare breakfast and dinner at the house. Lunch options are very limited in the park so we will prepare sandwiches and snacks. This will maximize our time in the park.

What is included:

  • All meals while in West Yellowstone and Gardiner, Mt.
  • Transportation from BZN airport and back
  • Snow coach and park fees as required
